A funny thing happened on my way to a comment ... I discovered I couldn't.

Comment that is. Not unless I setup an account with that blog platform. And it's happened more than once over the last month.

Is this a new development from the platform? A setting the blogger ticks? Somehow I remember there being more of a choice of platforms to login to leave a comment, even if anonymous posting was blocked.

It's a shame. Because I visit blogs on many different platforms and while sometimes a post makes me think "Oh, I should stop, say hi, and respond to this" the reality is if I have to setup an account with a platform I won't use and will to struggle to remember the next time I swing by, well, honestly, my comment wasn't that interesting.

Jeez. How lazy have I become?

I can't pretend I'm the least bit savvy about this stuff, but I haven't been able to comment to Blogger or Blogspot for months and I have no idea why.

Ouch. The dreaded platform change? I noticed WP wanted me to make some kind of gravatar thing? Sigh. Not really that inept, I just don't want to spend any time on it when it all worked fine before. Guess I need to just shut up and suck it up.

I think if you have an OpenID, doesn't that mean you can use it on other sites? Or am I totally in left field?? (probably so, especially when it comes to computer stuff) I know to *like* a post in wordpress you need a wordpress log-in, but to comment on other sites, including wordpress, I think as long as you have an OpenID (eg MSN, blogger, WP, LJ, etc) you are ok? *blushing* I may be wrong here. . .

No, I think you are right on, at least that's what I recall being able to do. Suddenly, it's not an option on some blogs I've visited.

I have the same issue, and the same reaction. It is too much of a hassle to set up all these different sites and id's. Really, this is the biggest reason I am on FB despite all the issues with it that is where the largest number of people I interact with online are. If I can't comment from my FB id, I usually just skip it. LJ being the exception because I have an account there already, even tho I am hardly ever there anymore.

Lucky for me. {{hugs}} This is one of the reasons I mirror my blog on multiple platforms. I figure if *I'm* not willing to setup to be able to comment, why should I expect anyone else to make the effort.

I'm embarassed it took me so long but I've finally spent some time on FB and played with the "lists" feature so I can sort through my newsfeed and make some lists like I have on Twitter to quickly see the stuff I want to see.
