Why did the turkey end up in the crockpot?

Because at 5:00 this morning we discovered the heating element in the oven was broken - in more than two places. Thankfully, most of the other oven-needing goods had already been prepared in advance. But for those that love a yeasty roll with their mashed potatoes? No go.

Tomorrow's adventure? Finding a heating element for a stove that was new in 1971.
